Nailsea & Tickenham FC 1-0 Clevedon United

Nailsea & Tickenham beat local rivals Clevedon United.

N&T nearly took the lead inside the first few minutes as Matt Pilgrim got out wide on the right wing and crossed into the box to find Chris Gregory who shot first time but the ball fired over the bar.

With the first 5 minutes gone, N&T were close to taking the lead as Matt Pilgrim laid it off to James Seeley and he shot from outside the box which just went over the bar.

Clevedon United tried getting into the game and attacked down the wing but a good block from Chris Gale prevented them getting into the final third. N&T then counter attacked and the ball found Pilgrim who shot from 20 yards out and went just wide of the post.

N&T continued to press and Chris Gregory turned in the box to shoot, only for a great save from the Clevedon goal keeper which kept the score line 0-0.

Half hour into the game and a shocking challenge from the Clevedon striker ended the game for Dan Boulter as he was forced off with injury. The striker was fortunate to stay on the pitch as the ref somehow only gave him a yellow card.

The ref also decided to book Chris Gregory and Gary Freeman as they questioned the lack of a red card.

With half time approaching Matt Pilgrim chased a ball into the box and was floored by the keeper but the ref sided with

Clevedon again and awarded nothing.

Early in the second half a good corner played in by Aaron Latta found Dan Cook at the back post who's resulting header

gave N&T the lead. N&T nearly doubled their advantage immediately after a good corner from Josh Benjamin was only slightly cleared to James Seeley on the edge of the box who volleyed inches wide.

With 20 minutes left in the game Chris Gregory took a throw in from the right wing and found Matt Pilgrim in the box who chested the ball down, spun around and fired from the edge of the box across goal. Unfortunately he just couldn't find the net.

Great defending from Ryan Cook broke down Clevedon's attack and a through pass from Chris Gregory into the path of Matt Pilgrim won a free kick after he was taken out. The resulting free kick bounced around the box before Clevedon managed to clear it.

With a few minutes left, James eased past a few players in midfield before a through ball into Matt Pilgrim got there at the same time as their keeper. It was blocked and cleared and fell to Chris Gregory just outside the box who took one last touch in an attempt to find the corner but it sadly went just the wrong side of the post.
