Clevedon United Res 1-4 Nailsea and Tickenham Res

The Swags made the short trip to Coleridge Vale to face the only side to beat them during last seasons title win and were able to keep 10 of the same starters from the opening day draw at Winscombe.

A scrappy first half hour saw N and T squander some decent chances when in good positions and could not take advantage during numerous corners. Joe Pratt looked dangerous down the left and Nick Walker caused problems on the right. Five minutes before half time Mark Ashley robbed a Clevedon defender and calmly slotted into the bottom corner to notch his 50th goal for the Swags. Jamie Mellor was rarely troubled during the first half, which ended 0-1.

Clevedon took advantage of a rare opening during the early second half, with Dan Fowler equalising for Clevedon Utd with a low drive underneath mellor. 1-1.

The goal seemed to kick start N and T who responded well with further chances, Wes Bracey broke through the middle and finished well to make it 1-2 and restore the lead, soon after Joe Berry was fouled inside the box. Al Parsons saw his penalty effort saved but was grateful that the keeper parried to Joe Berry to head in the rebound. New signing Nic Steadman came on and with some neat touches he soon scored his first goal for the club with a low half volley under the keeper to make it 1-4 and secure all three points.
